Moua of Cape Coral makes Dean’s List at RIT
Ximena Moua of Cape Coral was named to the Dean’s List at Rochester Institute of Technology for the 2020 Fall Semester. Moua is in the industrial engineering program.
Undergraduate students are eligible for Dean’s List if their GPA is greater than or equal to 3.40 for nine credits of traditionally graded coursework; they do not have any grades of “Incomplete,” NE, D, or F; and they have registered for, and completed, at least 12 credit hours.

Drass named to Ohio University Fall 2020 Dean’s List
Ohio University College of Health Sciences and Professions student Jess Drass from Cape Coral has been named to the school’s Fall 2020 Dean’s List.
More than 8,400 students qualified for the fall semester 2020 Dean’s List at Ohio University, including main and regional campuses.
Over 40 states were represented on the Dean’s List, including: Arizona, Connecticut, California, Florida, Illinois, Rhode Island, Texas and Ohio. Students also represented Ireland, Egypt, France, Germany, Japan, Canada and many other countries.
Due to COVID-19, OHIO students who earned 12 semester hours of credit, including at least six hours attempted for letter grades, with a minimum grade point average of at least 3.5 achieved this distinction.

Van Horn graduates from Valdosta State University
Bryce Van Horn of Cape Coral has earned the bachelor of science in exercise physiology from Valdosta State University.
Van Horn was among nearly 900 students who completed their degree requirements during Fall Semester 2020.

IMAG History & Science Center plans Summer of Inspiration Camps
The IMAG History & Science Center in Fort Myers has announced its new Summer of Inspiration Camps designed especially for rising 1st through 8th grade students beginning the week of June 21.
Camp IMAG offers campers fun and exciting experiences with an educational curriculum blending Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) with History, in themed weekly sessions, with activities, games, exhibit explorations, arts and crafts, and more to inspire the imagination and encourage a lifelong love of learning. At Camp IMAG, campers see something they never saw before, hear something they never heard before, sparking their imagination and giving new meaning to who they can become like the scientists and astronauts, explorers and experimenters, discoverers and designers, pilots and programmers, mechanics and master chefs of their dreams.
Divided into rising 1st to 2nd graders, rising 3rd to 5th graders, and rising 6th to 8th graders, one-week camp sessions include Backyard Scientists, Lego Engineers, Wizard Academy, Junior Keepers, Messologists, Culinary Chemists, Don't Try This at Home, Bots and Rovers, and Tiny Tech to name a few. In addition to camps, the IMAG also offers a Junior Camp Assistant Program for rising 9th to 12th grade students. What's more, the IMAG, through its commitment to support the community, offers tuition-assistance Camp Scholarships for families in need.

Dental assistant program at Hodges University
Smiles are in plenty of supply at Hodges Connect, the Professional Education and Training division at Hodges University.
Those interested in a career in the dental field can get their start with the Foundations of Dental Assisting program at Hodges University. The demand for Dental Assistants is expected to grow 23% by 2026 in Florida. According the CareerOneStop, the average annual salary in Florida for a Dental Assistant is $48,257.
Students will learn dental terminology, anatomy, instrument sterilization, communication and patient privacy, appointment scheduling, financial arrangements and inventory maintenance. Students will also learn how to properly mix and prepare dental impression trays and prepare stone models for diagnostic purposes.
It's a six-week program, held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the new Health Sciences building on the University's Fort Myers campus.
The first class begins March 6.
Tuition is $1,199 and includes the textbook with bonus materials, the Basic Life Support certification for Health Professionals, and hands-on simulations in a state of the art dental lab. Students will learn from dental professionals in the field.

FLCPS holds 10th Annual Take Strides for Education 5K Walk/Run
The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools held its 10th Annual Strides for Education 5K Run Feb. 6. The event, hosted at Florida SouthWestern State College's Lee Campus, raised money for The Foundation's Take Stock in Children program.
A total of 1,100 business leaders, community partners teachers and local runners participated in the race this year in-person and virtually. The race was COVID safe and friendly as CDC Guidelines were followed to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators. The Foundation raised $37,000 for the purchase of scholarships for the students in our Take Stok in Children Program.
Schools and businesses throughout Lee County were challenged to create the largest team by creating friendly competition. This year's winners are as follows:

The Strides for Education 5k raises money for college scholarships to benefit students entering the Take Stock in Children program. Take Stock in Children was established in 1995 as a statewide scholarship program that provides a unique opportunity for deserving low-income youth to escape the cycle of poverty through education. The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools administers the program here in Lee County. Students enter the program in 6th or 9th grade and commit to remaining crime- and drug-free, maintaining a 2.5 GPA or higher, and meeting with a mentor regularly. Upon high school graduation, having kept this commitment, students are awarded a four-year college tuition scholarship.
