TALLAHASSEE - After 6,555 music students from across the state auditioned for 22 different music ensembles, 2,166 Florida All-State students were selected to perform last month. Sixty-eight Lee County students were selected for one of the All-State ensembles. These students performed at the Tampa Convention Center and Marriott Water Street Hotel during the January 12-15, 2022, Florida Music Education Association Professional Development Conference in Tampa.
Local schools with students included in the ensembles included Bishop Verot, Cape High, Challenger Middle, Gulf Middle, Ida S. Baker, Mariner Middle, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, North Fort Myers High, Oasis Charter Elementary, Patriot Elementary and Trafalgar Middle.
The students were featured in such groups as All-State Concert Orchestra, All-State SSAA Chorus, High School Honors Band, Middle School Honors Band, All-State Symphonic Band, All-State Middle School Band, All-State Elementary Chorus, All State Middle School Mixed Chorus, All-State School Treble Chorus, All-State Reading Chorus, All-State TTBB Chorus and High School Honors Chorus
FMEA and its component organizations, Florida Vocal Association, Florida Orchestra Association, Flor-ida Bandmasters Associa-tion, and Florida Elemen-tary Music Education Association represent 22 different All-State Ensem-bles. The audition-based All-State Ensembles are highly select groups of choral, band, orchestra, guitar, popular music, elementary chorus, and Orff students from Florida's schools.
These students are brought together to rehearse and perform selected music with guest conductors as part of the FMEA Conference.
