Lavoie makes spring Dean’s List at Adelphi University in New York
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Leah Lavoie of Cape Coral has been named to Adelphi University’s spring 2022 semester Dean’s List.
Lavoie was among a select group of outstanding students recognized by Adelphi’s deans of Arts and Sciences, Education and Health Science, Business, Nursing and Public Health, Social Work and Psychology for superior academic performance.
The list comprises full-time students-registered for 12 or more credits-who have completed at least nine graded credits and achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above for the semester. This recognition becomes part of the student’s academic record and is entered into the individual’s transcript.

Campbell inducted into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, La. — Alexis Campbell of Cape Coral was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society.
Campbell was initiated at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Campbell is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines.

Jaffarian named to Dean’s List at Widener University
CHESTER, Pa. — Widener University has announced that Andrew Jaffarian of Cape Coral achieved dean’s list status during the spring 2022 semester.
Jaffarian earned the status while pursuing a bachelor of science in business administration in management/sport management from the School of Business Administration.
The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who earned a grade point average of 3.50 and above for the semester.

Sumner makes Springfield College spring Dean’s List
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield College has named Tessia Sumner from Cape to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the 2022 spring semester.
Sumner has a primary major of health science.
The criteria for selection to the Dean’s List are as follows: The student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of “P” grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.500 for the term.

Kearney named to spring dean’s list at SUNY Delhi
DELHI, N.Y. — SUNY Delhi has recognized Jessica Kearney of Cape Coral for her academic achievement and being named to the dean’s list for the spring 2022 semester.
The dean’s list is a recognition of students who enrolled in six or more credits and earned a 3.5 or higher grade-point average for the semester.
SUNY Delhi’s hands-on approach to teaching and learning includes over 60 academic programs in specialized areas, including applied technologies, nursing, hospitality, veterinary sciences, applied sciences, business and liberal arts and sciences. SUNY Delhi offers certificates, associate degrees, bachelor’s degrees, as well as master’s degrees in a combination of on-campus and online settings.

Changes made to Head Start Program
The School District of Lee County is making changes to the Head Start Program so that it is easier for families to qualify. Any family with children currently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits is considered "income eligible”" for the School District of Lee County Head Start Program. This change comes after a recent federal policy change made by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Summer applications are accepted at the Early Childhood Center Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Families can complete the on-line pre-application at https://eclc.leeschools.net/ our_school/application_information before arriving.
The following documents are needed for an application to be complete:
• Proof of age for the child (original birth certificate)
• Proof of Income, four weeks of pay stubs for all family members including child support, or a 1040 tax return (2021), (SNAP, TANF, SSI)
Additional documentation, if applicable, should include:
• Documentation of disability: Early Head Start requires a copy of the IFSP or IEP. Head Start requires the application ticket.
• Custody papers if not the natural parent
• Proof of pregnancy is required when applying for Early Head Start
Once the application is complete, parents need to apply for and obtain a VPK Voucher (4-year-olds ONLY) through the Early Learning Coalition at 2675 Winkler Avenue, Suite 300, in Fort Myers. Questions can be emailed to earlychildhood@leeschools.net.

If you are interested in enrolling student(s) in Lee Virtual School for the 2022-2023 school year, the deadline is today, July 15. Lee Virtual School offers full-time enrollment for kindergarten through 12th grade with certified teachers providing the instruction.
