Four killed, one critically injured, in single-vehicle crash on I-75 in Collier County

Four Cape Coral residents -- three of them in their teens -- died, and a fifth was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash early this morning after the driver lost control while changing lanes on I-75 in Collier County.

The crash occurred at mile marker 110 at 6:22 a.m.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, three male occupants -- the 18-year-old driver and two 19-year-old passengers -- were confirmed deceased on scene; one female occupant, 21, was critically injured, transported, and later pronounced deceased at an area hospital; and one critically injured male, 16, was transported to an area hospital.

FHP reported that the vehicle traveled off the roadway, entered the grass median and collided with a tree where the impact broke the vehicle into two separate parts.

The crash remains under investigation, officials said.
