Mariner’s Cruz, Macias Buenrostro finish 1-2 in District 3A-6 cross country meet

CROSS COUNTRY
Angel Cruz and Dylan Macias Buenrostro continued their dominant seasons as the Mariner duo finished 1-2 in the District 3A-6 cross country race Thursday at Buckingham Park.
Cruz (15:42.30) and Macias Buenrostro (15:56.90) were the only two runners to finish in under 16 minutes.
Both advanced to the Region 3A-3 meet as individual runners. One Mariner runner was ill and the Tritons lost a tiebreaker, missing the top eight teams.
The regional meet next Wednesday will also be run at Buckingham Park.
North Fort Myers and Cape Coral finished 2-3 in the boys team standings to move on. Ruben Viera De Lemos was fourth overall for the Seahawks, and Brody Hilt of North was sixth.
In the girls race, North Fort Myers came in third in the team standings, led by Aurelia Sciandra’s third-place finish of 20;26.40.
Briana Watson of Island Coast (eighth overall) and Cape Coral’s Audrey Gross (20th) earned regional spots as individuals.
