To the editor:
There is some present discussion of redrawing Congressional districts here in Florida now (in the middle of the decade). If this comes to pass, I suggest that some of these new districts be "at-large," rather than simply territorial.
Doing so would allow third-party candidates a shot at getting elected to Congress. As it stands now, for example, individual Libertarians are "buried alive" in districts that are overwhelmingly structured in favor of one of the "legacy" parties (i.e., the usual suspects, Democratic or Republican). At-large districts would allow us to aggregate our votes and maybe add a new voice or two in Congress.
Of course, voters from the "legacy" parties could aggregate their votes, too, and swamp us as usual, if they are still of a mind to do so. To them, I say: try it. What are you afraid of? After all, you'll still have your own representative from your own district.
