Thanksgiving is not only a day for turkey and pumpkin pie -- it heralds in the biggest holiday season of the year.
And the city of Cape Coral has you covered with a two-day festival to begin Friday night.
The city is expanding its usual tree-lighting ceremony to a multi-day "Holiday Nights on the Lawn" celebration set for Nov. 28 and 29.
The free, family-friendly event will be held on the front lawn at City Hall, with a myriad of holiday events scheduled each night from 4 to 8 p.m.
"We're excited to bring the holiday spirit to our residents over two festive evenings, with events designed for families and community connection," said Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Director, Joe Petrella. "Our hope is that attendees will walk away with joyful memories--parents and kids spending time together, neighbors meeting neighbors, and a true sense of togetherness here in Cape Coral."
Holiday Nights on the Lawn kicks off on Friday with a festive tree and menorah lighting, along with fun activities for all ages, including ice skating under the stars, a trackless train, unique vendors, and a visit from Santa. Each night ends with a cozy holiday movie, and the celebration wraps up Saturday with a dazzling drone show over City Hall.
"This is a great chance for kids to meet Santa, play on the inflatables, and enjoy the ice rink--those moments truly bring the magic of the season alive," Petrella said. "And our drone light show is something special--a dazzling visual experience that people of all ages can enjoy. We encourage everyone to stay through the evening to catch this spectacular finale."
Highlights of the event include:
• Nov. 28: At 4:30 p.m., enjoy the sounds of the Southwest Florida Symphony, followed by the lighting of the 50-foot holiday tree and menorah at 5:30 p.m. As the sun sets, families can enjoy a showing of "The Santa Clause" on the giant inflatable screen.
• Nov. 29: Snap a holiday photo with Santa from 5 to 8 p.m. and stay for a screening of "The Polar Express" at 6 p.m. The evening concludes with a spectacular drone light show at 8 p.m.
