A Cape Coral sports memorabilia and trading card superstore is taking part in a global event this Saturday, with countless discounts, specials and free items for lovers of the hobby.
This Saturday, Feb. 21, JP Sports is participating in Topps Rip Night, sponsored by Topps/Fanatics, with the aim to draw card lovers, kids and families closer to the hobby they love, or have been wanting to explore.
JP Sports has confirmed a number of current and former pro athletes will be at the shop to participate in the event, including former Twin and Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana, Mick Abel, Brooks Lee, Luke Keaschall and James Outman.
Santana and Abel will appear at 5 p.m., with additional appearance times to be announced.
"JP Sports couldn't be more excited to take part in this year's Topps Rip Night. This is shaping up to be the biggest Rip Night we've ever hosted. Last year we welcomed two athlete appearances--this time we're bringing in six," said JP Sports store manager Jonathan Powell. "Topps is bringing major talent right here to Cape Coral, creating a rare, up‑close meet‑and‑greet opportunity for collectors and sports fans. JP Sports Collectibles is proud to partner with Topps for this global event, helping bring collectors closer to the hobby and the players they love.
"These appearances also inspire younger fans who may be discovering the hobby for the first time. Seeing a real athlete up close makes the sport feel more accessible and exciting. It bridges the gap between the game and the community, bringing everyone together in a way that only face‑to‑face interaction can."
JP Sports will be running all-day sales, including 15% off all hobby, mega and blaster boxes; 30% off all single cards; those who purchases a Topps Hobby Box is eligible for a Topps Hobby Rip Night pack (limit one per customer).
Perhaps most fun of all, "Pack Wars" will go down from 4-5 p.m., where free packs are given out all hour long.
"It's a lot of fun," Powell said. "People can take turns ripping packs for free, get back in line and do it again."
No matter what sport you collect, heading out to JP Sports for this event is an advantageous way for hobby lovers to experience discounted products, and a good time.
"This event is an incredible opportunity for collectors, their kids and even people who've never been exposed to the hobby to jump in and be part of something special," Powell said. "We have a warm, welcoming staff that makes you feel right at home and part of the JP Sports family.
"Topps is doing an amazing job bringing athletes to the community, and JP Sports is always ready to host and turn this into a true paradise for collectors and sports fans. There's simply no way to walk into a JP Sports and not have a great time -- and this event takes that experience to the next level."
JP Sports has served the Southwest Florida community for 32 years, with the happiness of customers at the heart of everything they do. JP Sports' mission is to elevate and grow the local sports community, and that passion shows the moment you walk through the doors.
JP Sports carries a wide range of sports merchandise -- not just for local teams, but for any team customers request. From every NFL and MLB team to a full lineup of sports‑card brands, JP Sports ensures collectors and fans always have options.
"One of the things we love most is seeing generations of collectors come through our shop," Powell said. "Customers who once bought cards here as kids are now bringing in their own children. It's nostalgic, it's meaningful, and it reminds us why we do what we do.
"People call us 'old school,' and honestly, we take that as a compliment. JP Sports is built on passion, hard work, and a commitment to creating a place where fans feel at home. We want to be your number‑one destination for everything you love -- that's who we are. Every JP has put their blood, sweat, and tears into building something that can last for decades right here in Southwest Florida and across the United States."
