One of the biggest financial challenges for parents today is the cost of quality child care. Each year, along with nearly every other product and service, child care costs rise.
In today's economy, most families need two incomes to meet their financial needs. However, with the high cost of quality child care, often one of those two incomes is consumed by child care expenses.
This subject is frequently discussed, but not enough is being done to provide solutions. One of the greatest recent changes is the Unique Abilities Scholarship. This has been a huge help to many families, but there are still so many families who would benefit from child care assistance programs. Families should not have to settle for subpar child care due to financial barriers.
Florida Senate Bill 946 proposes a study on child care assistance programs. The bill mandates a comprehensive study on the current state of child care assistance programs available to Floridians. While families are in need of immediate help, that is potentially good news for the future of affordable child care.
How can the common person affect change? One way is by contacting state legislators. Often people think that their voice does not matter, but it does! Taking just a little time to call, email or visit your state legislator goes a long way. Making quality, affordable child care available to families in our area will benefit our entire community.
