UNG cadet Duffy helps Blue Ridge Rifles excel in national event
DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- The University of North Georgia Blue Ridge Rifles earned a fifth-place overall finish out of 31 teams in the 52nd annual Mardi Gras Invitational Drill Meet earlier this month at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Team members included Jack Duffy from Cape Coral.
The results contributing to the fifth-place overall mark included second place in Platoon Basic; fourth place in Platoon Inspection, Platoon Exhibition and Individual Exhibition; 12th place in Color Guard; and 13th place in Squad Basic Drill.
In 1950, a drill platoon was formed for use in spring parades at North Georgia College. The team was named Honor Platoon. The name was later changed to the Drill Platoon. In 1958, the Drill Platoon was renamed the Blue Ridge Rifles in honor of the Dahlonega volunteer unit.

Bishop Verot's Performing Arts Department presenting 'The Little Mermaid'
Bishop Verot High School's Performing Arts Department's production of "The Little Mermaid" continues this weekend. Performances began Thursday, March 19, and run through Sunday, March 22, in the Anderson Theater.
The Verot theater troupe has consistently earned top awards at state-wide competitions in all areas of performance. These very talented performers are sure to make this show a don't miss for theater lovers, especially Disney fans.
Performances are nightly at 7 p.m. with the final show Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. on the Verot campus. Tickets are available online at bvhs.org.
FSW announces spring enrollment events across four campuses
Florida SouthWestern State College will host a series of spring enrollment and open house events throughout April, giving prospective students opportunities to explore programs, meet advisors, and receive assistance with the admissions process at campuses across Southwest Florida.
The events include PreView FSW, the college's spring open house, as well as Enrollment Assistance Events and a Next Steps Night designed to guide students through the enrollment process.

• EASE Event, Wednesday, April 8, 3 to 6 p.m. at the FSW Charlotte Campus, 26300 Airport Road, Punta Gorda
• EASE Event, Wednesday April 15, 3 to 6 p.m. at the FSW Collier Campus, 7505 Grand Lely Drive, Naples
• Next Step Night Event, Thursday, April 23, 3-6 p.m. FSW Hendry/Glades Curtis Center, 1092 E. Cowboy Way, LaBelle
