The 19th Annual Children's Environmental Art Contest Awards Ceremony will be held Wednesday evening, May 14 at 6 p.m. in the large meeting room at the Cape Coral Library at 921 S.W. 39th Terrace.
This year's theme is "Let's Protect Our Mangroves," and young artists age 5 through 12 were asked to create an original painting or drawing that shows how we can protect this precious species from habitat loss and other main threats.
A panel of judges selected the winning entries based on four different age categories. The public is encouraged to join youngsters, parents, families, teachers and prominent members of the community at this popular yearly event and enjoy some refreshments.
Guests attending the program can applaud the children as the winners accept their awards, and hear a presentation about mangroves by keynote speaker Kealy Pfau, Coastal Watch Director at Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation.
The contest is sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Library and the Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library. The 20 pieces of awarded artwork will be framed and on display in the Art Gallery of the Cape Coral Library on the night of the Awards Ceremony on May 14, and the exhibit will remain in place through June 26.
Photos of the winning art entries can also be viewed by visiting capefriends.org/art-gallery within a week following the ceremony.
