Southwest Florida Parrot Head Club fundraiser set for Sunday

A benefit for Cape Coral's animal shelter and a South Florida dog rescue takes place this Sunday in Cape Coral. 

The Southwest Florida Parrot Head Club will host the benefit for the Cape Coral Animal Shelter and Big Hearts for Big Dogs from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Caloosahatchee Moose Lodge featuring live entertainment and prize opportunities. 

The event is free to attend, and includes food, drinks, raffles, 50/50 raffles and five different live performers. 

"Our motto is 'party with a purpose,' and that's what we do," said President of the Southwest Florida Parrot Head Club, Barb Fries. "We raise money for non-for-profits."

The club encompasses Fort Myers and Cape Coral, and has 135 members. The group raises money for local and national charities. 

Having a partnership with Margaritaville on Fort Myers Beach, the club is able to offers great prizes at their events, including pool passes and cabanas at the beach club. 

Sunday's lineup includes performances by Ray Boone, Terri Hood, Scotty Bryan, Rudy Cox, and Beth Travers.

"Their songs are very similar in the message that Jimmy Buffett always portrayed," Fries said.

Of the club raising funds for the shelter, Executive Director of CCAS, Liz McCauley said, "We're incredibly grateful to the Southwest Florida Parrothead Club for their continued support and for hosting this amazing fundraiser. Their generosity directly impacts the lives of the animals in our care, and we truly couldn't do this work without community partners like them."

Big Hearts for Big Dogs Rescue is out of Miami, with a focus on larger breeds being adopted.
