Breaking: Mantanzas Pass Bridge closed

12:52 p.m. Update from FDOT:

The Matanzas Pass Bridge remain temporarily closed to traffic.

“This closure is necessary to allow FDOT bridge inspectors and the U.S. Coast Guard to conduct a safety inspection following an incident involving a boat that became lodged under the bridge,” Florida Department of Transportation officials said in a release issued shortly before 1 p.m. Monday.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is on-site to assist with rerouting traffic and marine activity.

FDOT bridge inspectors and the US Coast Guard are conducting the bridge inspection.

“This incident will cause delays and we appreciate the public's patience as we work to ensure safety in the area,” FDOT said.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach has just announced that a Shrimp Boat has hit the Matanzas Pass Bridge, which will be Closed until FDOT is able to assess the damage.
