For the safety of motorists and construction crews, the Florida Department of Transportation has announced that both southbound lanes of the Caloosahatchee River Bridge (U.S. 41) in Fort Myers will be completely closed tonight, Jan. 13, beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 14, by 5 a.m. This closure is necessary for crews to work on a few remaining tasks of the walkway installation along the bridge. MATLACHA, Fla. – There will be intermittent bridge closures in Matlacha Tuesday, Jan. 7, during daytime hours to allow crews to accept deliveries of concrete bridge piles to the worksite and unload onto the barge, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The deliveries will start as early as 10 a.m. and will continue until all piles are delivered. Crews will clear traffic in between deliveries to lessen the impact to motorists on and off the island.
