FHP: Cape man found dead in rest area parking lot

This morning, Dec. 17, at approximately 5:45, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a report of an unresponsive male at the rest area off I-75 on Daniels Parkway and Goldenwood Drive, Lee County. Accoring to the FHP, the male, age 40, of Cape Coral, was located on the ground of the rest area parking lot, next to his vehicle. The male was pronounced deceased on scene. The Lee County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death. The rest area is back open. The incident remains under investigation.

CCSO corporal shot to death during traffic stop

A Charlotte County deputy was killed in the line of duty Sunday afternoon in Port Charlotte during a traffic stop. Cpl. Elio Diaz was shot just after 3 p.m. at a Chevron gas station along Tamiami Trail, across from the Sunseeker Resort, according to Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell. He was transported via helicopter to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. During the traffic stop, Prummell said the suspect, later identified as Andrew Mostyn Jr., 24, pulled out a rifle and opened fire. Lee Board of County Commissioners’ special meeting Tuesday canceled

The Lee Board of County Commissioners special meeting set for Tuesday, Dec. 17, has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts. The meeting was to be held at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 17 for an update on Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery programming. That discussion now will be scheduled for a date in 2025. US 41 Caloosahatchee River Bridge full nighttime closure schedule revised for construction crews to complete striping activities

The Florida Department of Transportation has revised the schedule for full nighttime closures of the Caloosahatchee River Bridge. For the safety of motorists and construction crews, the bridge will now be completely closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Sunday night, Dec. 15, through Friday night, Dec. 20. These closures are necessary to allow crews to complete striping activities along the bridge.
