The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools has announced its new class of Take Stock in Children Scholars.
Thirty-five students from the 6th and 9th grades have been accepted into this award-winning scholarship/mentoring program. The application process includes a written application sent to a selection committee composed of business and community leaders. Those students who ranked high in this process were then interviewed in person at their schools. These 35 students are well deserving of this awesome opportunity.
"These awesome students will be our future leaders, decision makers, employees and employers," Foundation President and CEO, Marshall T. Bower, ESQ., said in a prepared statement. "This investment in them will be returned 10 fold as they become active, positive and productive members of the community."
Take Stock in Children Scholars will be inducted into the program on Thursday at Broadway Palm Dinner Theater. Students are required to sign a "contract" agreeing to stay crime and drug free, maintain good grades and behavior, meet with a mentor on a regular basis, and graduate from a Florida public high school.
Students who successfully complete the program will be awarded a four-year college tuition scholarship.
