Pendergrass invited to White House celebration

Lee County Commissioner Cecil L. Pendergrass, vice chair of the Lee County Board of County Commissioners and resident of Southwest Florida's Congressional District 19, has been invited to the White House by President Donald J. Trump to share in the celebration honoring the University of Florida Men's Basketball team.
The fighting Gators won their third NCAA Division I basketball national championship by defeating the University of Houston Cougars on April 7.
"Congratulations to the University of Florida Gators on this remarkable achievement! This is a significant moment not only for UF and its basketball program, but also for all those seeking a higher education within the Florida University System. I am honored to participate in such a momentous celebration," Pendergrass said in a prepared statement issued this morning.
Pendergrass was elected to his seat in 2012 and subsequently re-elected. His service as a Lee County commissioner follows his retirement from a distinguished law enforcement career as a member of the City of Fort Myers Police Department.
The celebration will take place at 4 p.m. today, May 21, at the White House. Pendergrass will share photos on social media after the event, the release states.
