A pair of teens are facing charges after police say they stole a cell phone on the grounds of a Waffle House in Cape Coral.
A 17- and 15-year-old, both males, each have been charged with with robbery by sudden snatch without firearm/weapon.
According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, police were called to the Waffle House on Del Prado Boulevard on Tuesday after a caller reported being robbed during an arranged Facebook Marketplace meet-up to sell an iPhone valued at approximately $400.
According to CCPD investigators, one of the juveniles "snatched" the phone from the victim's hands, pushed him in the chest, and fled on foot with an accomplice.
"The victim chased the suspects before losing sight of them nearby," a CCPD release stated. "Witnesses and the victim provided descriptions of the suspects to officers.”
CCPD officials said patrol officers traced the suspects to a nearby residence on Orchid Boulevard, where three juveniles matching the descriptions were detained. CCPD officials said both the victim and a witness identified two juveniles allegedly involved in the robbery.
Both teens were transported to the Lee County Juvenile Assessment Center.
