Cape Council must prioritize green space

1 min read

To the editor:

Being that Cape Coral is one of the fastest-growing cities in our nation we need to act on this issue today. Cape Coral is woefully inadequate in green space. For the last few years we have not set aside land for green space.

My plan is simple and to the point.

An acre of green space per an acre of development. The developer kicks in mitigation money to help to buy the land. In terms of dollars, $20-$60 million should be put in this year's budget for this project or bond the money.

Green space will help build our extremely robust tourist business. It will provide solitude and shade to get out of our heat and restore our mental attitude on life. Walking and biking trails would bring in many. A place where our animals would call home. Water storage to prevent home flooding.

Readers, I need your help to get the Cape Coral City Council to act on this. Please pass your comments on to the mayor and council members at citycouncil@capecoral.gov.

Thanks for your help in this matter.
