Mariner’s Cruz earns 5th place finish in state cross country meet; Oasis girls team fifth

CROSS COUNTRY
Mariner’s Angel Cruz came in fifth and teammate Dyla Macias-Buenrostro eighth in the FHSAA Class 3A state cross country championship meet Saturday at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee.
The Oasis girls placed fifth as a team in Class 2A.
Marcelo Mantecon of Belen Jesuit Prep was the 3A boys champion, crossing the line in 15:03.3. Cruz posted a time of 15;51.8 and Macias-Buenrostro finished in 16:03.6.
Belen Jesuit Prep was the 3A team champion.
North Fort Myers was 24th in the team standings, with Cape Coral 26th.
Annabella Tomasic of Bishop Moore won the 3A girls race in 17:35.5.
Belen Jesuit Prep also won the 3A girls team competition, with North Fort Myers2 0th.
In Class 2A girls, the top Oasis finisher was Jazlyn Forbes in 13th place..Sharks teammate Madison Easton was 36th.
Gianna Gyurich of Bishop Verot finished 43rd as the Vikings were 26th as a team.
Bishop Kenny claimed the 2A girls team title.The winning runner in 2A was Selah Viginer of West Shore in 18:14.7.
In 2A boys, the winner was Will Moss of Montverde Academy in a time of 15:35.3.
Bolles was the 2A boys team champion, with Bishop Verot 29th.

In the Turkey Meet Invitational at Bishop Verot, Oasis’ Paige Thomas placed second in Olympic and third in traditional lifting in her weight class. Lacey Beattie was third in Olympic and fifth in traditional in her class, with Kyra Cavender fourth and sixth respectively. The event drew nine teams from around Southwest Florida.
