Lehigh man arrested for burglary while on his way to court on a burglary charge

Also charged with possession of methamphetamine

A Lehigh Acres man was arrested in Cape Coral for an alleged burglary while on the way to court on a burglary charge. 

Devon Turner, 33, has been charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, and possession of methamphetamine. 

According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, on Monday around 8:30 a.m., officers were called to a report of a burglary in progress. 

Police state the caller said they were inside their RV, which serves as their residence, when an unknown male attempted to open the locked door "multiple times." The man was described as wearing "women's clothing," including leggings and a tank top, and carrying a small backpack. 

The man, later identified as Devon Turner, disconnected the RV from its power source after failing to gain entry, CCPD said in a release.

Turner reportedly told responding officers he was on his way to court and was searching for clothing to wear. 

CCPD officials state that based on the investigation, officers determined Turned attempted to unlawfully enter an occupied dwelling with the intent to commit theft, and that Turner's court date was related to a prior burglary. 

CCPD officials also stated during a search, officers located roughly 2.9 grams of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine inside Turner's backpack. 

According to Lee County arrest records, Turner had been charged with burglary in Cape Coral in late January. 

As of Tuesday at noon, Turner was still in custody at Lee County Jail, being held on a $15,000 bond.
