30th Annual Partners in Education – State of Our Schools Breakfast Friday
The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, in partnership with The School District of Lee County, will hold the Partners in Education – State of Our Schools Breakfast Friday, May 14, at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, at 1380 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.
The annual event provides an opportunity for the superintendent to address the business community on the progress, accomplishments and vision of The School District of Lee County. Harlan Parrish, board chairman for The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, and Marshall Bower, president and CEO will give an update regarding the accomplishments of the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools and our goals going forward.
Breakfast and registration begins at 7 a.m., followed by the program at 7:30 a.m.

Red Sox Foundation awards 14 high school students college scholarships
For the sixth consecutive year, the Boston Red Sox honored 14 local public high school seniors, presenting them each a $5,000 college scholarship by the Red Sox Foundation.
Scholarship funds are raised from proceeds from the annual Swings For The Sox golf tournament held each fall to benefit the Red Sox Scholarship and other efforts. In the past nine years, the Red Sox Foundation has raised more than $446,160 for local nonprofits and scholarships.
According to Brennan Whitley, senior manager Florida business operations for the Boston Red Sox, 211 applications were received this year for the 14 scholarships.
The Red Sox Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and the official team charity of the Boston Red Sox. The foundation's primary focus locally is in serving the health, education, recreation and social service needs of children and families across Southwest Florida. The Red Sox Foundation is one of the most successful in all of Major League Baseball.

Lee Health's Shipley Cardiothoracic Center to provide scholarships to bioengineering students at Florida Gulf Coast
With a mission of promoting innovation, education and research within the Southwest Florida community, Lee Health's Shipley Cardiothoracic Center is announcing a donation of $150,000 to Florida Gulf Coast University to support bioengineering students.
The $150,000 will be dispersed through the Lee Health Foundation over a period of three years, at $50,000 a year through student scholarships.
The funds will be used to support FGCU bioengineering students in their junior and senior years. In addition to student scholarships, the donation will also be used to support the students' professional development through conferences, travel, internships and other opportunities. The goal is to engage the students in the research, clinical delivery and community engagement that the Shipley Cardiothoracic Center participates in throughout the year.
The Shipley Cardiothoracic Center is Lee Health's cardiothoracic surgery program. It's the largest program in the region performing over 1,600 surgical cases annually.
The Shipley Cardiothoracic Center is located within HealthPark Medical Center, which is recognized as an IBM Watson Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital. HealthPark is the only hospital in Florida to receive this recognition for four consecutive years.
