More than 500 Catholic school teachers and administrators as well as pastors, corporate sponsors and community leaders are expected to attend the inaugural STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Educa-tion, Arts and Mathematics) Symposium hosted by The Diocese of Venice Department of Education next week in Fort Myers. The session, which will take place Monday, March 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be held at Bishop Verot Catholic High School at 5590 Sunrise Drive in Fort Myers.
"STREAM embraces Catholic culture as the core of interdisciplinary learning," said the Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice in Florida. "STREAM's vision requires planning, development, collaboration and communication across all six disciplines. Its framework illuminates Catholic values and teachings among multiple creative systems and cutting-edge platforms that inspire students to apply faith, science, and technology in meaningful ways."
The STREAM Symposium will begin with Mass at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, located next to Bishop Verot Catholic High School. The Rev. John Belmonte, SJ, Superintendent of Catholic Education, Diocese of Venice in Florida, will lead the celebration.
The STREAM Symposium will offer teachers and other participants a choice of more than 30 breakout sessions. Each 45-minute session encompasses a STREAM topic ranging from integrating smart boards and educational software to promoting digital safety and project-based learning in the classroom, as well as how best to integrate the teachings of the Church in a classroom setting. Between sessions, attendees may visit with education technology vendors and sponsors and participate in interactive exhibits that showcase faith-infused innovation.
The symposium will feature a keynote address by Nate Davis, Leadership Executive, Apple Inc.
