The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members
The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.
• Caroline Picciolo of Cape Coral at Nova Southeastern University
• Misty Sweden of Cape Coral at Nova Southeastern University
They are among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter.
Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Today, the society has chapters on more than 325 campuses in the United States, its territories and the Philippines. Its mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."

Lee County Supervisor of Elections announces 5th Annual 'Arts Vote' Contest winners
Lee County Supervisor of Elections Tommy Doyle has announced the winners of the 2021-2022 Arts Vote Contest!
1st Place “Best Artwork:” Paige Berry, Cypress Lake High School
2nd Place “Most Original Artwork:” Zachary Yoshida, Cypress Lake High School
3rd Place “Most Creative Artwork:” Page Steiner, North Fort Myers High School
Lee Elections’ “Arts Vote” Contest gives students at participating high schools the opportunity to unleash their creativity and talent to the fullest to promote civic engagement, voting and patriotism.
The contest began on Oct. 25, 2021, and ended on March 18, 2022. Doyle and staff selected the winning pieces from 31 entries; 22 from North Fort Myers High School, eight from Cypress Lake High School and one from Lehigh Senior High School.
The Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office will award the winners a gift card and a certificate of appreciation for participating in the contest.
As the winning high school, Cypress Lake will receive a $500 award in an effort to support local schools and the arts.
The mission of the Lee County Supervisor of Elections Office is to provide the voters of Lee County with superior election services by conducting secure and accurate elections.
School District’s 2022 Spring Teacher Recruitment Fair April 30
The School District of Lee County has announced the 2022 Spring Teacher Recruitment Fair will be held Saturday, April 30, at the Lee County Public Education Center. During this event, principals and assistant principals will be conducting interviews and hiring for 2022-2023 vacant teaching positions.
All candidates must pre-register by visiting the Careers Job Portal and apply for the position titled "Spring Teacher Recruitment Fair." Registration will close on Friday, April 15. Once registration is submitted, candidates will be screened and invitations will be e-mailed by April 18, 2022.
Offers of employment will be extended at this event, so candidates must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for an invitation:
n Hold a valid standard teaching certificate (Florida or out-of-state) OR
n Expected to graduate from a college of education by August 2022 OR
n Hold a bachelor's degree in an area where certification can be obtained or any degree major and a passing score on a subject area exam
To see if a bachelor's degree can lead towards certification, visit the Florida Department of Education's website.
If a degree major does not equate to a certification area, register to take a subject area exam.
